Young Innovators for Climate Action
Junior and Senior High School Track
Junior and Senior High School Track
The Baguio City Climate Action Labs Innovation Senior High School Track is an exciting 10-week program designed to empower senior high school students to co-create innovative, localized solutions to climate challenges in their communities. By engaging with the Problem-Driven Iterative Adaptation (PDIA) and Design Thinking methodologies, students will collaborate with the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK), barangay officials, and school campuses to transform their communities and campuses into Living Labs for climate resilience and sustainability.
This program nurtures leadership, creativity, and a sense of shared responsibility for environmental action while fostering real-world problem-solving skills.
A Living Lab is a space where innovative ideas are tested, refined, and implemented in real-world settings. In this program, schools and barangays become Living Labs where students and stakeholders experiment with and apply climate action strategies to address pressing local issues.
Students will learn to break down complex climate challenges into manageable problems, identify entry points for action, and implement solutions iteratively, adjusting based on feedback and real-world outcomes.
This human-centered approach encourages empathy, creativity, and prototyping. Students will engage deeply with their communities to understand needs, brainstorm solutions, and test their ideas in collaborative environments.
The program is structured into five key milestones:
Students, SK leaders, and barangay officials will conduct site visits and interviews to identify climate challenges within their communities.
Workshops will guide participants in defining clear, actionable problems using PDIA.
Employing Design Thinking techniques, students will co-create innovative solutions with stakeholders.
Prototypes of solutions will be developed and presented for feedback from peers and community members.
Teams will implement their prototypes in school campuses or barangays, observing how they perform in real-world conditions.
Feedback loops will refine solutions, ensuring they are practical and impactful.
Based on testing results, students will enhance and scale their solutions for broader application.
Stakeholder engagement sessions will evaluate feasibility and sustainability.
Teams will present their projects at a culminating event, showcasing their impact and journey to the community.
Certificates of participation will be awarded, and outstanding projects will receive special recognition.
